thursday evening meditation

Every Thursday evening at 5:30 pm we gather to meditate together. We practice a kind of seated meditation called zazen which encourages ‘shikantaza’. Shikantaza is a type of meditation that brings Awareness to all that arises without discrimination. After seated meditation, we do a short walking meditation (kinhin) and engage in a discussion of Buddhist teachings. You are welcome for all or part of the meditation and discussion period. Chairs and cushions are available.

5:30pm - Zazen

6:00pm - Kinhin

6:10 - Dharma Discussion

Newcomers: please arrive at 5:20 and text Ian ahead (575-741-1500) to let him know you will be joining as a newcomer so that he can give you a brief introduction to basic forms such as how to enter the zendo and take a seat; how to walk kinhin; and meditation tips if desired. You can also familarize yourself with the basic etiquette and forms here.

In the event of heavy snow on a Thursday, Hokoji will announce if the zendo will be closed.
